Βιογραφικό/Faculty Bio

Katerina Ritzouli is an engineer architect and historian. She holds a degree in Architecture from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Master of Science Degree in Protection, Reservation and Restoration of Monuments from the A.U.Th. She completed her PhD thesis at A.U.Th. at the Faculty of Architecture with Prof. Claire Palyvou as supervisor. She also holds a degree in History and Social Anthropology (Ethnology) from the Democritus University of Thrace. She has written three books on the fields of restoration of monuments and history of architecture: 1. 2021 Ritzouli, K. Introduction to the industrial heritage of Western Thrace, PAKETHRA, Methexis, Xanthi, ISBN: 978-618-5056-02-5 2. 2020 Ritzouli K., Santorini 1204-1956, The History of Architecture, L. & E. Bellonia Foundation, ISBN: 978-618-81420-3-9 3. 2015 Palyvou, C., Ritzouli K, Small scale architectural interventions in traditional settlements of Santorini: The example of Kallisti, published by Estia Pyrgos Kallistis. She has numerous publications in international conferences and scientific journals at the thematic areas of restoration of monuments and interventions in historical sites, industrial heritage, history of the architecture of the Cyclades, Ottoman architecture, traditional building techniques and intangible cultural heritage, anthropo-geography of traditional masons’ and craftsmen groups in Thrace and the Balkans. She has also pioneered the inclusion of the “Stone carving art of the Metaxades of Evros” in the list of the intangible cultural heritage of Greece. She has participated in the multidisciplinary research program “Island cultures in diachronic perspective: the case of Therasia”, operated by the University of Crete, Department of History and Archaeology, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Department of Architecture and the Postgraduate Interdepartmental Program on the Preservation, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Monuments and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 11th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, which was financed by the European Union (European Social Fund - ESF) and national resources "THALES”. She speaks greek, english, french, italian and spanish. Member of TICCIH and Vault of Industrial Digital Archives (VIDA)
